Video consultation in psychiatry

Consultations by video call, with the same rigour and confidentiality as an in-person appointment.

What it is

A video consultation is a psychiatry appointment held by video call. It follows the same principles as an in-person consultation: clinical assessment, discussion of treatment options and follow-up of your progress.

It is useful if you live outside Lisbon or abroad, find it difficult to travel, or need to keep up your care while travelling or working away.

When it is suitable

It works well for many follow-up appointments and for a number of first assessments. In some situations an in-person consultation is better, for example when a physical examination or a more detailed assessment is needed, or when the clinical situation is unstable.

If so, you will be told and an appointment at the practice in Lisbon can be arranged.

Practical details

  • you need a computer, tablet or phone with a camera and a stable internet connection;
  • you should be somewhere private where you can speak freely;
  • confidentiality and medical secrecy are exactly the same as in an in-person consultation;
  • when needed, prescriptions can be issued electronically.

Video consultations let you continue your care wherever you are.
